Watching your teenage son or daughter endure the stresses of the HSC can be one of the most anxious times for parents, but for more than 800 families across the state, the emotion is doubled – or even tripled. Sitting the exams next week will be 17 sets of triplets and 798 sets of twins, nine of whom are at one school – Wyndham College. Nidhushah Thavarajah remembers clearly the moment it dawned on her that she and twin brother Nidhushan were far from alone, as they flicked through school photos. “I had obviously noticed twins in the school, and then I started looking at the school photo book, and the amount of times we counted the sets of twins was crazy,” she said. The pair say they could hardly be more different – “the only similarity between us is probably our name”, Nidhushah said. To the confusion of their classmates, the 17-year-old twins both refer to each other as “Nid”, often sparking the response that emblazons their year 12 jerseys – “Which Nid?”. While Nidhushah aims to study pharmacology at university, Nidhushan will head to TAFE to study plumbing and take up an apprenticeship.
