About us

Wyndham College Sports Academy logo

Wyndham College provides students with the opportunity to be involved in our sporting programs as more than just talented athletes.

Founded in 2017, the Wyndham Sports Academy, unlike most sporting academies, is not exclusive to students participating in representative sports. Our motto which appears on our unique and professionaly designed logo is "Strong as One. Stronger Together" and accurately reflects our aims.

Our aim is to engage students with particular individual talents and provide them with the opportunity to develop their skills and interests whilst fostering a sense of identity and pride within their school.

We currently provide opportunities for students to be involved through representative sport, the Certificate II Sports Coaching program and through other roles such as referees, journalists, photographers and videographers.

No matter who you are or what you do, the Wyndham Sports Academy has a place for you.

Representative sport

Wyndham College has a proud history of success in a number of representative sports and provide a number of opportunities for our talented students, better known as the Wolverines, to showcase their athletic abilities.

Wyndham has had numerous athletes go on to represent the College at regional, state and national events. Students have even taken their talents into the NRL, AFL, NBL and even the Olympic Games.

As we are a senior College, school sports carnival are not included on our school calendar. Sports such as swimming, cross country and athletics begin at a zone level, with interested students self nominating to attend these carnivals.

Wyndham also competes in the NSWCHS school knock out competitions where the Wolverines have achieved a number of outstanding performances such as:

  •  2017 Sydney West Oz-tag champions
  • 2017 NSW Oz-tag state finals - runners up
  • 2018 Sydney West open boys football champions - NSWCHS round of 16 finalists
  • 2018 Sydney West open girls football champions - NSWCHS round of 16 finalists
  • 2018 FNSW Blactown region open boys & girls futsal champions
  • 2018 University shield finalists (rugby league) - runners up
  • 2018 Mark Geyer Cup rugby league champions.

Selection on to one of our school teams is via student nomination. For more popular sports, selection trials are held after school throughout Term 1.

Sports coaching program

The Certificate II Sports coaching course is the academic arm of the Wyndham Sports Academy. This course gives students hands on skills in a sport oriented setting, whilst earning a nationally accredited qualification from TAFE.

The course is based on the Sport Education in Physical Education Programs (SEPEP) learning model and provides students with skills not only applicable to practising coaches, but most professional roles. Skills such as team work, problem solving, planning, communication and improvisation.

Already our sports coaching students have had experience working at a variety of carnivals, including school and zone swimming carnivals, school and zone cross country carnivals, rugby league gala days, school soccer matches and primary school athletics carnivals.

Recently the Wyndham Sports Academy has fostered a relationship with the NSWPSSA and provide assistance at state level swimming and athletic events.

In addition to several units of competency, students must complete a minimum of 35hrs industry relevant work placement over the duration of the course. In order to achieve this we utilise contacts within the community such as local high schools, primary schools and sporting clubs etc. to provide students with an optimum chance to experience a variety of work place environments.
