Graduation and Formal

Formal

The Wyndham College formal event is held at the end of the year. The event is organised by the Year Advisers together with the Formal Committee. It’s the one last major event for High School.

The formal is usually held at a local reception center like Rosehill Racecourse, Curzon Hall, Rydges Norwest etc.. Students will recieve an invitation to the formal and tickets can be purchased from the school office after manditory course fees are paid.

There will be no parents at the formal BUT your teachers will be there to enjoy the evening with you.

Due to the large year group only students from Wyndham College may attend the formal.

Formal Assistance

Hawkesbury's Helping Hands collects and distributes formal wear.

Their aim is to ensure that no teenager in the Hawkesbury or surrounds cannot attend their farewell or formal, because they cannot afford to purchase an outfit.

Donations of formal attire would be greatly appreciated, both male and female.

Contact Hawkesbury's Helping Hands on facebook if you need help with a formal outfit or would like to donate.

Please consider donating or volunteering some of your time to support this great cause.

School Formal Tips:

Partner or Date ?
You don't need a partner to go to the Formal but if you do decide to have one they must be a Wyndham College student. Your partner can be your boyfriend, girlfriend, best friend or hang out buddy. You don’t have to wait for the person to invite you, you can invite too. Formal is a place to have fun and enjoy yourself, so it’s better to bring someone you’re close to rather than have some random, anonymous person as date. Going on your own or with a group is often the most fun.

Attire
School Formal is a formal event therefore formal dresses and formal gowns for the girls and formal suit for the boys. Shop early and remember to discuss with your partners so you  can coordinate. The dress/gown can be short or long. If you’re not sure how formal the dress is going to be, it’s worth asking around first as school traditions differ from one school to the next and year to year.

Shoes, Hair, Makeup, Nails and accessories
Get shoes that are comfortable since you’ll be wearing them for few hours. If you’re good with makeup, try different shades to see which one suit you the best. You can also go to a hair or beauty salon or get help from family or friends. Don’t apply too much makeup. You’re young and beautiful so just show off your natural beauty! Basically simplicity is the best! Try not to get expensive accessories since the event will only last a few hours. Remember not to over-accessorize. Don't forget a nice manicure for your nails, perfume or cologne for your body and nice-looking clean teeth.

Transport
Arrange for transport like a limo and go together with your date and friends. The more the merrier! You could also arrive in an Uber, your own car, a parent, friend or sibling's car, a taxi, motorbike or a hire car. This is a safer option than public transport as you will be very dressed up and won't be home early.

What to expect at the Formal?
1. You’ll have a pre-formal photo shoot, usually somewhere local like in a park or near a lake. The Ponds Lake and Nurragingy are often popular places to meet for photos.

2. You’ll be arriving at the formal walking on red carpet feeling like star.

3. You will have a great time socialising with your friends.

5. There will be a DJ hired and you will have memorable and embarrassing moments while dancing with your friends.

6. You will get multi-course or buffet style meal so remember to eat and enjoy!

7. You will be photographed many times during the night.

8. There will be no parents at the Formal BUT your teachers will be there as guardians to make sure the students are not involved with alcohol, violence and drugs.

10. You will see security guards hired by the school or venue.

11. You will be invited to post-formal parties.

To go or not to go?
Some students have doubts about going to the school formal: I don’t have a date, I don’t know many people, I hate dressing up, I think it’s a waste of time.

It’s your own decision whether you want to go or not but often people regret not going to their School Formal many, many years later so consider this carefully.

Graduation

The Graduation ceremony is the highlight of the school calendar and is held in the school hall. Students are able to invite two guests as there is limited seating at the venue.

Each student is issued with two tickets which must be used by guests to attend the ceremony.

Students are expected to attend the graduation rehearsal day and will be given lots of instructions about their graduation gown, personal presentation and information for the day. Gowns are purchased by students and the sash is presented to students as a gift from the school.

Staff, students and guests are all invited to light refreshments at the conclusion of the ceremony.
