At our school, we teach the NSW curriculum focusing on the HSC as well as vocational education and training for senior students. Through our collegiate offerings we have the widest choice of subjects in NSW. We offer TAFE subjects, school based traineeships and life skills programs. We know that strong skills in literacy and numeracy are the building blocks for HSC success, so our classrooms teachers use effective teaching strategies to help students reach their full potential.

Our subject syllabuses
In NSW syllabuses are developed within Key Learning Areas (KLAs) that describe broad areas of learning. Explore how we teach the the HSC curriculum in all key learning areas .
Religion and ethics

When enrolling, you’ll be able to choose an option from the approved providers offered at our school. You’re welcome to change your choice at any time. Just let us know in writing. There are no special religious education and special education in ethics approved providers available at our school.

Creative arts
Creative Arts provides students with opportunities to build their knowledge and contemporary understanding of Visual Arts, Photography, Film, Ceramics, Music, Drama, Visual Design and Dance. Please refer to the subject course guide on the enrolment page for more information about each subject.
English

English is the study and use of the English language in its various textual forms. Students can elect to study the following courses - English is a compulsory subject for Stage 6. Please refer to the subject course guide on the enrolment page for more information about each subject.

English Standard

This course is aimed at the majority of English students and is designed for students to increase their expertise in English to enhance their personal, educational, social and vocational lives.  Novel, study is compulsory. You may also study poetry, plays, film and non fiction texts. Shakespeare is NOT compulsory in this course.

Advanced English

This course is aimed at students who achieve highly in English and enjoy reading and writing. Shakespeare and novel study is compulsory in this course. You may also study poetry, film, drama and non fiction texts.

English Studies

This is a course designed for people who are interested in the communication skills of English, but do not want to focus on the close study of literature. For this course there is an option to do an HSC exam if you want to be eligible for an ATAR. There are also assessment tasks you will complete in class.

English EALD

EALD stands for English as an Additional Language or Dialect. This course is designed for students whose language background is not English. Only students who have been educated in English for five years or less at the beginning of year 11 are eligible for EALD English. The course is taught by specialist EALD teachers.

English Extension 1

Prerequisite: Advanced English.

This is a demanding, but rewarding, 1 unit course for students with a love of literature and ideas. You also need to be a capable writer, both creatively and analytically. You MUST do Extension 1 in Yr 11 if you want to do it in Yr 12.

English Extension 2

Prerequisite: Extension 1 English in years 11 and 12.

This course is only offered in Year 12. It is a one unit course aimed at talented, independent learners and original thinkers who have a particular interest in creating either an imaginative or analytical major work. The course requires students to complete 3 assessment tasks in school and submit a major work in term 3 of Year 12. Types of works include: Short Stories (6,000 -8,000 words); Critical Response (5,000 -6,000 words); Poetry (5,000 words); Film.

Languages

There are many language courses available in years 11 and 12, depending upon the amount of previous study of the language. Please refer to the subject course guide on the enrolment page for more information about the specific languages taught on site in our Collegiate schools. Our school also partners with the NSW School of Languages to provide a blend of quality online language learning in over 12 different languages. The use of video conferencing and periodic on-site study sessions ensures that students maintain close connections with their teachers, despite being in different physical locations.

Preliminary and HSC Continuers courses

These follow on from the stage 5 Elective courses in each language and allow students the opportunity to develop their language skills to a highly sophisticated level.

Preliminary and HSC Beginners courses

Students who have not studied a particular language in Stage 5, may take a Beginners course in that language in year 11. No prior knowledge of the language is required, however, as the students are more mature learners, they are able to progress rapidly with their language skills.

Extension Courses and Background Speakers courses

Some languages offer a variety of courses for advanced students or students who speak the language as part of their background.

Mathematics

In Year 11 and 12, the study of mathematics is optional. Courses offered at Wyndham College include:

  • Mathematics Standard 2
  • Mathematics Standard 1 (Optional HSC examination)

Health and Movement Science - Sport

Students may join the Wolverines Sports Academy for extra opportunities to engage in all aspects of representative sports participation, leadership, management and administration. In Year 11 and 12, courses available include:

Science

Science develops student's knowledge and skills in making sense of and explaining the biological, physical, chemical and technological world. Please refer to the subject course guide on the enrolment page for more information about each subject.

Biology

The Biology Stage 6 Syllabus explores the diversity of life from a molecular to a biological systems level. The course provides the foundation knowledge and skills required to study biology after completing school, and supports participation in a range of careers in biology and related interdisciplinary industries.

Chemistry

The Chemistry Stage 6 Syllabus explores the structure, composition and reactions of and between all elements, compounds and mixtures that exist in the Universe. The Chemistry course provides the foundation knowledge and skills required to study chemistry after completing school. Stage 6 Chemistry supports participation in a range of careers in chemistry and related interdisciplinary industries.

Earth and Environmental Science

The Earth and Environmental Science Stage 6 Syllabus explores the Earth’s renewable and non- renewable resources and also environmental issues. The course provides the foundation knowledge and skills required to study earth and environmental science after completing school and supports participation in careers in a range of related industries.

Physics

The Physics Stage 6 Syllabus involves the study of matter and its motion through space and time, along with related concepts that include energy and force. The Physics course help students develop a greater understanding of physics as a foundation for undertaking post- school studies in a wide range of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) fields.

Investigating Science

The Investigating Science Stage 6 Syllabus is designed to assist students of all abilities engage with scientific processes, and apply those processes to investigate relevant personal, community and global scientific issues. The knowledge, understanding and skills gained from this course are foundation for further studies and participation in current and emerging STEM-related post-school activities and industries.

Extension Science

The Science Extension Stage 6 Syllabus focuses on the nature, development and processes of science. Science Extension is designed for students with an interest in scientific research. The course lays a foundation for students planning to pursue further study in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) based courses offered at the tertiary level, and to engage in new and emerging industries.

Agriculture

The course develops students’ knowledge of plant and animal production, sustainability, and agricultural technologies through practical and theoretical learning. It supports pathways into careers such as agribusiness, farming, agricultural science, biosecurity, environmental management, and food production industries.

Marine Studies

The NSW Marine Studies syllabus explores the biological, physical, and human interactions within marine environments through practical and theoretical learning. It supports pathways into careers such as marine biology, environmental science, fisheries management, aquaculture, oceanography, marine tourism, and conservation.

Technological and applied studies (TAS)

Information Process and Technology

Information systems and the role they play in society have increased in significance in recent years. The raw ingredients – information, information technology and participants – combine to form information processes within information systems. Areas of future employment may include: music, the arts, science and technology as well as new and fast-growing industries that use multimedia.

Food Technology

The course will develop knowledge and understanding about nutrition and the Australian Food Industry -production, processing, preserving, packaging, storage and distribution, Students explore marketing and food product development in relation to diet and health in Australia and influences on nutritional status. Practical experiences in developing, preparing, experimenting and presenting food are integrated throughout the course.

Design and Technology

The course involves the study of both designing and producing. The course involves hands-on practical activities including a Major Design Project, a case study of an innovation, along with the study of innovation and emerging technologies.

Textiles and Design

The course involves the study of design, communication techniques, manufacturing methods, fibres, yarns, fabrics and the Australian Textile Clothing, Footwear and Allied Industries. Practical experiences, experimenting and product manufacturing are integrated throughout the content areas and includes the completion of two preliminary textile projects. The course includes the study of fabric colouration and decoration, historical design development, cultural factors that influence design and designers, contemporary designers, end-use applications of textiles, innovations and emerging textile technologies, appropriate textile technology and environmental sustainability, current issues and the marketplace.

Industrial Technology

Courses include Timber, Graphics and Multimedia Technologies. These courses focus on developing practical skills, design thinking, and problem-solving through hands-on projects and the use of industry-standard tools and technologies. These courses support pathways into careers such as engineering, trades, industrial design, manufacturing, construction, and technology-related fields.

Enterprise Computing

The course develops students’ skills in computing, data management, and digital solutions used in modern organisations, with a strong focus on problem-solving and ethical practice. It supports pathways into careers such as software development, cybersecurity, data analysis, information systems, network administration, and other technology-related fields.

Engineering Studies

The course develops students’ understanding of engineering principles, problem-solving, and practical application through the study of real-world engineering systems and projects. It supports pathways into careers such as mechanical, civil, electrical, and mechatronic engineering, as well as related technical and design-based fields.

Software Engineering

The course develops students’ skills in programming, algorithmic thinking, and software design through the creation and testing of digital solutions. It supports pathways into careers such as software developer, app or web developer, systems analyst, game developer, and other roles in the computing and technology industry.

HSIE - history and social sciences
Social Sciences offer knowledge, explanations and analysis of the activities of people within both their human and natural environments. Subjects include Geography, Commerce, Work Studies, Economics, Business Studies and Legal Studies. Students can also choose from a range of History courses including: Aboriginal Studies, Ancient History, History Extension, Modern History, Society and Culture, Studies of Religion. Vocational education and training (VET)

Wyndham College currently supports over 200 students who study VET courses as part of their HSC. These students will graduate with Cert II or III qualifications and have workplace experience. The onsite Tradewynds Cafe and Collegiate Vocational Innovation Centre (VIC) provide students with a quality trade school experience in our local area. We promote School Based Trainee-ships (SBATS) and VET courses and are proud to offer one of the widest range of courses delivered onsite in NSW through our Collegiate pathways including:
