What is high potential and gifted education?
Wyndham College is proud to implement the NSW Department of Education’s Inspire – High potential and gifted education (HPGE) Policy, which celebrates the diverse talents, abilities, and aspirations of all learners. Our approach reflects our commitment to equity, inclusion, and excellence, ensuring that every student is able to reach their full potential regardless of background.
We do this through:
effective teaching strategies: authentic evidence-informed teaching and learning practices, differentiation, compacting of curriculum, planned grouping, critical thinking skills, research opportunities etc..
Advanced HSC study skills programs: Elevate, Edrolo, Atomi, Library databases and digital literacy skills.
Our inspire high potential and gifted education opportunities
Our students engage with HPGE education in the classroom, in our school, and across NSW. Wyndham College offers opportunities to develop student talent across the four domains of potential as described in Gagne's Model of Giftedness. These opportunities include:
enrichment, extension and acceleration in selected subjects
extra-curricular experiences, performances, projects, exhibitions and competitions across faculties
comprehensive goal setting, well-being and mentoring programs

What is our model of high potential and gifted education ?
We know that potential exists along a continuum, where different levels of potential require different approaches.
High potential students are those whose potential exceeds that of students of the same age in one or more areas.
Gifted students are those whose potential significantly exceeds that of students of the same age in one or more subjects or areas.
Gagne's Model of Giftedness
Wyndham College is committed to developing all students using Gagne's Model of Giftedness to guide our talent identification and development programs. Students may be self, parent or teacher nominated through reports, assessments, observations, surveys, forms and performance.
Factors that facilitate talent development at our school include:
opportunities for sustained deliberate practice
quality teaching, curriculum and provisions including access to flexible curriculum options
programs that develop resilience, motivation, effort, and perseverance
provision of a range of opportunities to engage students and identify their learning interests

How does Wyndham College find potential in students ?
We use objective, valid and reliable measures to assess and identify high potential and gifted students’ learning needs.
At our school, high potential and gifted students are assessed through:
ability tests
achievement tests
adaptive tests
rating scales
previous school reports and staff recommendations
performance-based assessments
student self-nominations and parent nominations
pre-testing and formative assessment
teacher observations.
What is Platinum Club ?
Platinum Club is a selected stream of goal oriented and hard working students at Wyndham College. An intensive curriculum is delivered through the Platinum Program that enriches and extends the students learning. The Program also aims to develop the talent of high potential and gifted students in one or more domains including: intellectual, creative, physical-sport or social-emotional.
What are the goals of Platinum Club program ?
Wyndham College aims to:
assess high potential and gifted education (HPGE) students
identify HPGE student’s specific learning needs
promote engagement, opportunities and challenge for HPGE students across all four domains: Intellectual | creative | social-emotional | physical-sport
provide resources to support HPGE achievement
meet wellbeing needs of HPGE students
compact curriculum & group study HPGE strategies
differentiate curriculum and learning experiences
accelerate, extend & enrich HPGE students in consultation with students and their learning interests and goals
create learning environments that include specialist staff that support HPGE students to experience efficacy & agency
collaborate with families, school communities, universities, consultants, industry and the wider community to support the talent development of HPGE students.
How are students selected for Platinum Club ?
Platinum students are selected based on their application, enrolment interview, PAT test results, teacher recommendations and school reports. A panel of staff at Wyndham College will select successful students however the Principal's decision is final. Students will be notified via email and invited to attend an induction morning at the College. Places are limited as this program is in high demand so apply online early.
