Attendance matters
Missing school means missing out on vital teaching and learning.
Attendance is recorded each day during classes and by a mentor teacher during roll call or 'Connect' time. Parents will receive a text message from the school notifying them if the student is not present at school. Attendance can be monitored through the Sentral Portal
Responsibilities
You must ensure:
- that students of compulsory school age are enrolled in a government or registered non-government school or, they are registered with NESA for Home Schooling.
- that students who are enrolled at school attend every day the school is open for their instruction.
- that parents provide an explanation for absences by means such as a telephone call, written note, text message or email to the school within 7 days from the first day of any period of absence.
- that parents work in partnership with the school to plan and implement strategies to support regular attendance at school, including communicating with the school if they are aware of issues impacting on their child’s attendance or engagement with school.
Important Information
Please inform the school ASAP if a student:
- has an unavoidable medical or dental appointment (preferably these should be made after school or during holidays)
- is required to attend a recognised religious holiday
- is required to attend an exceptional or urgent family circumstance (such as attending a funeral)
- is sick, or has an infectious illness.
- is taking extended leave for travel or other reasons. Fill out leave form at front office.
If students are having difficulty getting to school regularly, they may need to talk to the school principal or the school counsellor.

Expectations for Attendance
A minimum 85% attendance per subject is required for students. This is a requirement of the Department of Education. Students must also ensure that they are resolving N-Warning letters if they are issued on Sentral for incomplete work. Students who are an attendance and academic concern will be placed on monitoring contracts by the Deputy Principal, and could potentially be signed out of the College if they are unable to resolve these in the timelines set.
Students can access support through their classroom teachers and Head Teachers for coursework and assessment tasks that they are working on. Truancy from classes is not acceptable under any circumstance and will be followed up. Absence from class impacts the student, but also the cohort in the class, because gaps in knowledge slow down the learning progress of all students. Students need to be in class consistently to learn effectively and efficiently.
